Villa Seaweed (SEA) The ideas of Le Corbusier, Scarpa, Barragan and Mies Van der Rohe gave birth to the very first modern, contemporary, avant-garde villa on the island, just 10 years ago.

Pure, minimalist lines harmonize perfectly with nature. Seaweed procures an unusual feeling of purity and serenity. Located at the extremity of Pointe Milou's headland, Seaweed is a jewel of rare elegance whose every detail was carefully considered. The garden, created by the landscape gardener Frédric de Sainte Preuve, uses influences of Barragan, leaving nothing at random. Every plant has been meticulously selected; each plant's location was decided with precise definition, so perfection could be created. Seaweed's gardens play an integral part of this philosophy of peace of mind, illustrated by original botanical finds, like the hedge composed of dwarf filao trees.

Barragan was also at the origin of the creation of two walls, one of which is ochre and the other purple, the two colors opposing each other, yet additionally complementing the structure of the contemporary architecture. The colors were specially created with the painter Loti. In the entrance side, immense bullet proof glass panes from Brazil surround the villa, appearing like a huge gem to the passers-by. The zinc roofs are amazingly reminiscent of those of old Paris, contrasting charmingly with the metal structures supporting immense white canvas awnings. From the garden side of the villa, the view is spectacular: St Jean Bay, the island of St. Martin, the outlying islets and the endless stretch of the Atlantic Ocean as far as the eye can see.

Everything has its well-defined space: the swimming pool, the pond, the fountain. The interior decor is of the same image of the exteriorâ??s sobriety, simplicity and modernity. The use of sober materials: the floors, the bathrooms, the raw polished concrete dining room table. Roofs, beds, the closet doors of the dressing rooms are made from wood of the same tone of color. An intimate interior where white, beige and brown prevail. Antique Chinese furniture, Buddhas from China, two Brancus wooden stools, a Georges Nelson bench, Charles Eames chairs.

Seaweed is a pure alchemy of details, a ship which sails in the winds of a world where everything is perfect.
