St Barts Villas in Gouverneur
Secluded bay with clear water on the south coast.
Gouverneur Beach is a wide crescent of sand on the south coast, surrounded by green hills. The water is clear and calm, good for swimming and snorkeling. The beach tends to be less crowded than St. Jean or Grand Cul de Sac.
No facilities or buildings on the beach itself, which keeps it quiet. You'll find mostly sand, water, and some palm trees for shade.
The drive down from Lurin is steep and winding, but the beach is worth it.
The Beach
Gouverneur Beach curves in a perfect crescent at the bottom of a steep hillside on the south coast. The beach is wide and sandy, with clear turquoise water that's usually calm. No facilities, no beach clubs, no restaurants. Just sand, water, and palm trees for shade.
The beach faces south, protected from northern swells. Swimming is generally safe and pleasant.
Swimming and Snorkeling
The water at Gouverneur is exceptionally clear. Good for swimming, and snorkeling is decent near the rocks on either end of the beach. You'll see fish, occasionally turtles.
The beach slopes gradually, so you can walk out quite far before the water gets deep.
Access
Gouverneur sits at the bottom of a steep hill. You drive down a winding road from Lurin. There's a small parking area at the beach. The walk from parking to sand is short.
Bring water, food, and something for shade since there's nothing at the beach.
Privacy and Atmosphere
Gouverneur tends to be quieter than beaches like St. Jean or Grand Cul de Sac. The lack of facilities keeps casual visitors away. You'll find more space and fewer people, especially outside high season.
The setting feels remote even though you're only 10 minutes from Gustavia.
Getting Around
Gouverneur is 15 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from Gustavia, and 10 minutes to St. Jean. The beach road is steep and narrow. Drive carefully.
The Villas
We handle 19 villas in the Gouverneur area. Most are on the hillsides around the beach, not directly on it (the beach itself is undeveloped). Villas range from modest houses to large estates with ocean views.
The hillside location gives you views while keeping you close to both the beach and Gustavia.
Best For
Gouverneur works for people who want a beautiful, uncrowded beach within easy reach of Gustavia. Good for couples and anyone seeking a more peaceful beach experience. Families with children will appreciate the safe swimming. Less ideal if you want beach clubs, water sports, or facilities right on the beach.
