Description
Villa Safari looks out on a panoramic sweep of the Atlantic. Perched on the western slopes of Pointe Milou, the vista unfolds along the coast, taking in the sweep from the bay at Lorient to Anse de Cayes, while the far-off outline of St. Maarten is often visible on the horizon.
This privileged vantage point frames exceptional sunset views, the day’s finale painted across the sky and water each evening. The entire living space is oriented toward this vista, making the ocean an ever-present backdrop through walls of glass. It is a scene of constant, gentle motion, where the only sounds are the distant whisper of the sea and the rustle of the tropical garden below. Inside, a warm, art-filled sanctuary unfolds.
The villa’s architectural character is defined by a prominent use of rich, dark wood across ceilings, beams, walls, and flooring, creating an enveloping and exotic atmosphere. High, peaked ceilings with exposed wooden beams soar above the living area, enhancing the sense of space and airiness. This Balinese-style framework, built with exotic hardwoods like Java teak, is accented with stone—a stone bench indoors, stone walls in the bathroom areas, and a stone terrace outside. The dominant palette of warm browns is contrasted against white walls and neutral linens, with vibrant pops of color coming from magenta accent walls, red cushions, and purple orchids. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls that pocket away create a physical and visual connection between the interior, the pool deck, and the boundless view beyond. The living area fully embraces this connection. The space extends directly to the sheltered terrace, where the décor presents furnishings from Indonesia and art from Africa, such as a hand-carved chair, pendant lamps with woven accents, and charming sculptures.
A large, comfortable sofa sits beneath the high ceiling, and a glass centerpiece filled with white seashells adorns the main table. The room is equipped with a fan for natural climate control and includes access to Netflix for evening entertainment. Adjacent, the well-equipped kitchen features dark gray granite countertops and a full suite of appliances including a microwave, a coffee machine and an espresso machine for morning rituals, a toaster, a blender, and a dishwasher. This practical space opens onto a dining table that comfortably seats six, all facing that breathtaking ocean panorama. Both bedrooms at Villa Safari are oriented toward the ocean and designed as distinct retreats. The primary suite, Bedroom 1, occupies the same upper level as the living area and is a focal point of the villa’s unique design. It is furnished with a queen-size bed (5.91 by 6.56 feet) and features a dramatic white canopy frame, adding a touch of romantic fairytale elegance.
The room is fully air-conditioned and also includes a mosquito net for peaceful sleep, a safe for valuables, and entertainment provided by a TV with French satellite and a DVD player. Its en-suite bathroom is a highlight, featuring a shower that opens to a private outdoor area where a natural rock formation is incorporated into the wall, blending the bathing experience with the garden’s exoticism. For an even more immersive experience, a separate outside shower is just steps away. On the lower level, Bedroom 2 offers greater privacy with its own terrace access. It shares the same queen-size bed dimensions and the same captivating ocean view. This room makes a bold decorative statement with a striking red or magenta accent wall and a unique ceiling embedded with lights that mimic a starlit sky. Air conditioning ensures comfort, and it is also equipped with a safe and a TV offering French satellite channels.
Its en-suite bathroom includes a shower, continuing the villa’s theme of simple, clean-lined luxury. The separation of levels between the two bedrooms provides a natural buffer, making this two-bedroom villa in Pointe Milou a fitting choice for two couples or a family with older children. The outdoor experience at Safari is defined by a unique architectural integration.
A heated 7.5 by 17.7-foot swimming pool is integrated into the main terrace, sheltered beneath its wooden ceiling. This creates a remarkable indoor-outdoor transitional space where the sparkling blue water reflects light and movement into the living area. The pool deck itself is crafted from tropical wood and stones from a Balinese riverbed, adding texture and authenticity to the 30-square-meter terrace. You can take a refreshing dip at any time, day or night, thanks to the pool’s heating system. For relaxation, an Indonesian daybed on the terrace offers a perfect spot for an afternoon with a book, while a cozy sitting area on the sun-drenched stone terrace provides front-row seats to the ocean vista. Meals are easily catered with the provided gas barbecue, ideal for grilling fresh local fare to enjoy al fresco as the sun dips below the horizon. Villa Safari’s location in Pointe Milou offers a serene, residential feel while keeping the island’s attractions within easy reach.
The airport is a convenient 10 to 20-minute drive away, and a standard rental car is suitable for access; a 4x4 is not required. The villa is equipped with modern conveniences to ensure a seamless stay, including Wi-Fi throughout, additional TVs and a DVD player, and practical items like an iron and ironing board. Please note that to maintain the tranquil, art-filled atmosphere, the villa is not suitable for young children; a minimum guest age of 14 applies. Pets, however, are welcome upon request.
