St Barts Villas in Grand Cul de Sac
Lagoon-side paradise for kayaking, paddleboarding, and barefoot beach dining.
Grand Cul de Sac is a shallow lagoon on the northeast coast, a hub for water sports. The calm, protected waters work well for paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing, with rental shops and instructors right on the beach.
Several beachfront restaurants serve fresh seafood. The lagoon's gentle waves are good for families with children.
Sea turtles and tropical fish are common close to shore. Villas here give you access to the action while still providing privacy.
The Lagoon
Grand Cul de Sac is a protected lagoon on the northeast coast. A reef offshore keeps the water calm and shallow, making it safe for children and good for water sports. The lagoon stays waist-deep for quite a distance from shore.
You'll see paddleboarders, kayakers, and windsurfers throughout the day. Several beach clubs rent equipment and offer lessons.
Water Sports
This is the island's water sports center. You can rent paddleboards, kayaks, and windsurfing gear from shops along the beach. Kite surfing happens here when the wind is right.
The shallow, calm water makes it easy to learn. Instructors are available for lessons.
Beach Clubs and Restaurants
Grand Cul de Sac has more beach clubs than most areas. O'Corail, Shellona, and Bartolomeo all offer loungers, service, and food. You can spend the day at a beach club with lunch and drinks brought to your chair.
Le Sereno hotel has a restaurant open to the public. The food is good and the location is right on the water.
Wildlife
Sea turtles frequent the lagoon. You'll often see them near the beach clubs, especially early morning or late afternoon. The shallow water and seagrass beds attract them.
Fish are abundant too, making snorkeling worthwhile even though you're in a lagoon.
Getting Around
Grand Cul de Sac is 10 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes to St. Jean, and 20 minutes to Gustavia. The lagoon road can get busy during peak hours since it's also the route to Toiny and Petit Cul de Sac.
The Villas
We handle 26 villas in Grand Cul de Sac. Some are beachfront with direct lagoon access, others are on the hillsides with views. Beachfront villas are expensive but give you private beach access. Hillside properties cost less and still put you close to the water.
Sizes range from small beachfront cottages to large estates.
Best For
Grand Cul de Sac works for families with children (safe shallow water), water sports enthusiasts, and anyone who wants beach club service. It's more social and active than remote beaches like Gouverneur or Colombier. Less ideal if you want complete seclusion or dramatic surf.
