Description
Villa Yellowbird is a story of 1973. Its architectural honesty defines the space: a classic Caribbean structure with high, vaulted ceilings of white-painted wood, where dark timber beams and rafters are exposed like the bones of a ship. When it was constructed, it stood among the earliest high-end vacation homes on the island of St.
Barts, and its recent renovation carefully preserved that original spirit. You walk on sand-colored tiles underfoot, your eye drawn to the warm nut wood of the cabinetry, a palette pulled directly from the hillside. Color arrives in thoughtful bursts: a turquoise throw on a chair, a vibrant fabric panel, a piece of folk art. It is a bright, airy blend of midcentury charm and modern comfort, a place that feels both timeless and completely of its moment. The layout encourages a gentle, breezy flow. At the heart is a great room where living, dining, and kitchen areas share one soaring, beam-crossed space. Large sliding glass doors and louvered windows on both sides open the walls, inviting the trade winds to sweep through and carry the scent of the adjacent nature reserve. You are never sealed off. From the sitting area, your gaze travels straight through to the infinity pool and the panoramic ocean view beyond.
At the rear of the expansive living area, a cozy alcove is appointed with a chessboard and an elegant sofa from the mid-century period, establishing a media and recreation space that intentionally nods to the past. The kitchen opens to an outdoor grill area, extending the practical living space. This main level holds the primary living zone and three bedrooms, while a lower level contains a separate TV room and a distinct bungalow houses the fourth bedroom, creating quiet, separate zones for a group. The kitchen perfectly combines the villa's earthy aesthetic with modern, updated functionality. It is equipped with an oven, microwave, grill, and toaster, alongside an espresso machine, coffee maker, juicer, and blender for morning ease. A refrigerator with an ice maker, separate freezer, and dedicated wine storage handles provisions, while a dishwasher and phone cover the practicalities. The dining area is anchored by a spectacular, wall-filling vintage photograph from the early 1970s, showing fruit vendors from Dominica on a Gustavia dock.
This single image encapsulates the villa’s connection to island history. Sleeping arrangements are thoughtfully configured across the property’s levels. The master bedroom on the main level offers a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, and extra seating, with colorful linens and artwork providing those characteristic pops of energy against the neutral backdrop. On the opposite side of the great room, two guest bedrooms provide flexible accommodation. The first contains a king bed, and the second offers two twins that can be joined to form a king. Both of these bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. The fourth bedroom is located in a separate bungalow, ensuring privacy.
This intimate retreat features warm nut wood paneling and is appointed with a king bed, complete with a private bathroom featuring a shower. Adjacent to it, a well-equipped fitness room means your routine does not have to pause. Outside, the view dominates. The terrace is a stage for the dramatic sweep from Lorient and St. Jean bays out toward St. Martin, Anguilla, and Marigot. The infinity heated pool is the centerpiece, a long, inviting stretch of blue that appears to spill into the sky. Steps at one end provide easy access. A dedicated sun deck provides ample room for relaxation, where several pieces of the property's initial patio furnishings have been thoughtfully restored and integrated, enhancing the genuine vintage character. For meals under the wooden pergolas, there is a gas BBQ and an outdoor dining area. It is a space for sunset watching, for reading in the dappled shade, or for simply listening to the birds from the neighboring reserve.
WiFi extends throughout the outdoor spaces. The entire property is reached via a gated driveway at the end of a quiet road in Pointe Milou, about a 10 to 20 minute drive from the airport; a standard car is perfectly suitable for access. Situated in Pointe Milou, Villa Yellowbird offers a secluded, hillside retreat with its sweeping vistas, while the island's shores, boutiques, and dining establishments are a mere five minutes by car. It is a 4-bedroom villa that does not shout; it feels personal and deeply connected to the island’s landscape and history.
